iPad Shock in Japan

Japanese tech. companies are reeling from the blows by the recent iGadgets that have hit their shores. Apple, among other U.S. (and Asian)  technology companies, have begun to dominate the Japanese technology market, something that is indeed shocking for a country that prides itself for being on the cutting edge of tech. Companies like Sony and Konami (the video game company) are having to adapt how and what they develop to this changing market. Sony is already working on a iPad-like device.

I don’t find the iPad to all that remarkable, but I love the reaction it’s generating in other computing companies. It’s getting everyone to jump in and take a crack; we’re going to be seeing some great stuff in the near future. I look forward to seeing what those creative Japanese companies think of.

The new iPod shuffle is fresh on the market. It’s smaller than a key and it talks. It has three positions; shuffle, non-shuffle, and off. There is no navigation on the unit itself. Not impressed? Well, in the current economic environment, the $79.99 iPod shuffle with a face lift might be what entry-level consumers are looking for.

This new stripped-down tech push brings to mind the Onion’s humorous take on Apple’s innovation through simplification:

Live Search is pretty amazing. Below, we checked out our homestead, the Concept Farm. At first look, Live Search looks a lot like Google earth. But once you start playing with the angle rotator tool on the Bird’s eye view, you’ll realize they are onto something a little cooler. If you can get the 3D function working, you will see they are really onto something cool.

The Japanese Do Not Heart the iPhone

iphone_japan1

Us farmers love our iPhones, but it seems the Japanese aren’t on the same page. Wired reports that it’s gotten so bad, iPhones are being given away for free to Japanese customers! What seems heaven sent to us just doesn’t cut it in Japan.
